Note: This is a summary of Robin DiAngelo's White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk about Racism     Racism needs courage and intentionality, by definition, not passive or complacent. So, in answer to the question, “Where do we go from here?” the author offers that we never consider ourselves finished with our learning. Even if challenging all the racism and superiority we have internalized was quick and easy to do, our racism would be reinforced all over again just by living in the culture. Robin DiAngelo, the author has been engaged in this work in many forms for many years. She continues to receive feedback on her stubborn patterns and unexamined assumptions. It is a messy, lifelong process necessary to align her professed values with my real actions. It is also profoundly compelling and transformative.     The default of the current system is the reproduction of racial inequality; our institutions were designed to reproduce racial inequality. They do so with efficiency. Our schools are particularly useful at this task. To continue reproducing racial inequality, the system only needs white people to be charming and carry on as such, laugh at people of color, be friendly over race and go to dinner together at the event. None shouldn’t be pleasant. It’s better than being selfish. But kindness is not courageous. Kindness will not get racism on the board and will not run it on the table while everyone desires it off.     In fact, causing racism to white people’s thought is often seen as not ideal, and is regarded as not crafty triggers white fragility. In a vile racial circle, white fragility has performed to put people of color from claiming racism to avoid white rage. In turn, not challenging white people on racism upholds the racial order and whites’ position within that order.Disclaimer: This book is a SUMMARY.
